Gifts of securities, which have been held for at least a year and a day, offer one of the simplest and often most financially sound ways of making a contribution. They are the same as cash to HECH, but offer favorable tax implications for the donor. Transferring such securities to HECH (not selling them outright) will offer you a charitable tax deduction of the full fair market value with no capital gains tax on the appreciation.

REMEMBERING HECH IN YOUR WILL THROUGH A CHARITABLE BEQUEST

Making a charitable bequest is as easy as asking your lawyer to add a codicil (amendment) to your will designating a specific amount or percentage of your estate for HECH. Some of the advantages of creating a bequest include: you retain control of the asset (investments, real estate, fine art, etc.) during your lifetime; you may modify your bequest if circumstances change; a gift to HECH from your estate is exempt from federal estate taxes; or

A DEFERRED GIFT THROUGH A TRUST*

There are other more complex giving options through a variety of charitable trusts, some of which offer the donor an income from the trust for life with the remainder going to charity upon the donor’s death. These vehicles require legal drafting and a sizable investment but offer positive tax implications as well a lifetime income stream for the donor.
